Our Song

Author’s Note: This piece is about a song that Taylor Swift wrote, and how it would be different if a guy told the story.

Our Song, by Taylor Swift, really can get to you. You can understand the lyrics by hearing it once. Taylor sings many songs, but this one is, by far, my favorite. This song is written in both points of view, but she’s the one telling us the fantasy of their love life. It would change drastically if Drew, the guy she wrote it about, was telling the story.

Taylor wrote this song when she was in ninth grade, and also when she was dating a guy, named Drew, and apparently, they didn’t have a “song”. So when the talent show came up, she wrote this song, that included her boyfriend, and sang it at the talent show. When she wrote the lyrics, she was trying to say, that she wanted them to have a song, and she was telling him how they don’t have a song. In the song, she wanted him to tell her that they had a song, and that it was something special.

Parts of this song are in Drew’s point of view, but they way he is telling her was more different, than she was probably expecting. Taylor’s saying that she wants a song, but he was telling her that everything they do together is the best song there could be. He was putting their memories into lyrics. He didn’t want some ordinary song, he wanted a individual kind of song. One that would bring chills to your back one everyone heard it. Especially one that meant the most to Taylor.

If Drew had sang this song, I think we all know that it would be a whole lot different. Even though it is in two point of views, Taylor was still the main person telling us what’s going on. If you think about it, songs can really change from point of views. You don’t know a song correctly, unless you know who is the outlook of this the outlook of the story.

  1. I think that this is going to be a 9 because I used text evidence, and I used good examples and details in my piece
